This post covers Oct 12–18. For this week (Oct 19–25), see Suwon, Hwaseong, Yongin, Seongnam & Gwacheon with Kids This Weekend: 7 Places, as Closing Festivals and New Openings Overlap (10/19–25).
Short version: almost everything this week (10/12–10/18) in Suwon, Hwaseong, Yongin, Seongnam, and Gwacheon is packed into the weekend of 10/17 (Sat) and 10/18 (Sun).
Gyeonggi Children’s Museum is free on those two days, and the Retro Future Festival at Gwacheon National Science Museum wraps up with Week 3 (10/17–10/18).
In Hwaseong, the World Heritage Joseon Royal Tombs Festival starts on 10/17 (Sat).
The Pumasi Performing Arts Festival also runs only until 10/18, so this weekend is the last chance for the shows at Mindeulle Theater Village.
Monday 10/12 is the opposite. Most science museums and museums are closed.

I only picked events, activities, and shows you can actually go to this week in Suwon, Hwaseong (Dongtan), Yongin, Seongnam, and Gwacheon.
Nearby Uiwang, Gunpo, Anyang, Pyeongtaek, and Anseong get a short section at the end.
Year-round places and ongoing festivals are collected separately in the Suwon, Hwaseong, Yongin, Seongnam & Gwacheon events roundup.

Anything open on Monday, 10/12? Closures and dates to watch this week
There are no public holidays this week, so the closure rules are simple.
The places below are closed on Monday (10/12), and Seoul Land doesn’t take regular visitors for one day, 10/15 (Thu).
| Place | Closed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gwacheon National Science Museum | 10/12 (Mon) regular closure | The Science Exploration Hall is closed for renovation (8/24–11/2); Space Analog partly reopens its hands-on facilities 10/13–11/1 |

What’s on at Gwacheon National Science Museum in the third weekend of October?
The Retro Future Festival moves into Week 3.
The theme is Intelligence: you mix old-school games like puzzles, marbles, ddakji (paper tile flipping), and gonggi (jacks) with an AR hacking tour on your smartphone to complete the intelligence of G1, an AI baby robot.
Retro Future Festival
10/17–10/18 10:00–17:00 · 3 times a day per program · Anyone with a paid museum ticket can join
(You’ll need a smartphone for the AR tour)
From 10/13 (Tue), a stamp tour, the Quantum Generation AR mission, and the Creative Studio’s automaton box all start.
All three are free and walk-in, so they’re good for a quick stop on a weekday afternoon.
| Event | Dates · times | Cost | Ages | How to join · notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Retro Future Festival, Week 3 | 10/17 (Sat) – 10/18 (Sun) 10:00–17:00 | Museum admission ticket needed (check the official notice for the price) | Anyone with a paid museum ticket | Walk-in. Central Hall 1F & 2F, the lawn, and around the permanent exhibition halls |
| “Space in Your Pocket!” book talk concert | 10/17 (Sat) 19:00–20:00 | Free | Anyone elementary school age and up who’s into space | Planetarium. Advance booking. Afterwards, public viewing at the observatory, weather permitting. Couldn’t confirm remaining seats |
| “Uncomfortable Autumn Camp” (carbon-neutral family camp) | 10/17 (Sat) 16:30 – 10/18 (Sun) 08:00 | ₩20,000 per family / annual members ₩10,000 | 20 families with at least one elementary schooler (up to 6 people per family) | Applications until 10/14 (Wed) 23:59, first come first served online. Bring your own tent (within 5m x 5m); no cooking or open fire. Couldn’t confirm whether it’s full |
| Artisan’s Workshop: Hangeul mother-of-pearl keyring | Sat & Sun session 1 13:30 – 14:30 / session 2 15:00 – 16:00 | ₩10,000 (museum admission extra) | Families with a child aged 10+ (6 families per session) | Booking opens at 09:00, 3 days before. For 10/17, from 10/14 09:00. Preschoolers can’t enter |
| Night Sky Decoder class | Sat & Sun 13:30 – 14:30 | ₩3,000 for 1 person | Elementary grades 4–6 | Advance booking, first 24 per session. Couldn’t confirm remaining seats |
| Creative Studio “Dalkadak Movement Workshop” | Until 11/13 (Fri); Dalkadak automaton box from 10/13 | Free | All visitors | No sign-up, first come first served when there’s a free seat |
| Stamp tour “Find the Hero Cat!” | 10/13 (Tue) – 10/31 (Sat) | Free | Everyone | Pick up the mission sheet at the Creative Studio |
| Quantum Hide-and-Seek: Observe the Hidden Ghost Cat! | 10/13 (Tue) – 11/13 (Fri) | Free (the Quantum Generation special exhibition itself is paid) | Everyone | Smartphone AR. Limited goodies for those who finish |
By age, I’d say the Retro Future Festival suits early elementary kids, and the decoder class or the book talk suits older elementary kids.
The camp is 1 night.. so if you don’t have a tent, it’s hard from the start.
Preschoolers can’t go into the mother-of-pearl keyring workshop at all, so if there’s a younger sibling, one parent has to wait outside.
What’s happening at Seoul Grand Park, Seoul Land, and MMCA Gwacheon this week?
| Event | Venue | Dates · times | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| [Artist IN Gwacheon] “Playing at Changgeuk with Byeoljubu the Turtle” | Gwacheon Civic Hall, small theater | 10/17 (Sat) 17:00 (60 min) | All seats free | A mini changgeuk (Korean opera) version of the pansori “Sugungga” pitched at kids. No advance booking. Children under 10 can’t enter alone |
| “Birds of Prey Stories” with a zookeeper | Birds of prey enclosure, Seoul Zoo | 10/17 (Sat) 13:30 – 14:40 | Free (zoo admission extra) | Elementary grades 1–3 only; parents can’t join the session. | Seoul Land “K-Dopamine Ghost Festival” | Seoul Land | Until 11/1. 10/15 (Thu) private buyout | Based on Seoul Land admission (check the official notice for the price) | Autumn festival with a ghost theme, think gumiho and Dracula. This week’s show times aren’t on the official schedule yet |
| Children’s Museum special exhibition “Oh~ Sense Museum” | MMCA Gwacheon Children’s Museum | Tue–Sun 10:00–17:30 | Admission ₩0 | A kids’ exhibition exploring the senses through 23 installation, video, and sculpture works. Closed 10/12 (Mon) |
If you’re spending Saturday in Gwacheon, a sensible order looks like the zoo’s birds of prey talk at half past 1 p.m. (grades 1–3) or the science museum, then finishing with the changgeuk at Civic Hall at 5.
There’s no advance booking for the changgeuk, so go a little early and line up.
Where to go with kids in Suwon this weekend?
Suwon has no big festival this week, just its regular weekend programs.
Around Haenggung-dong, Dalbit Hwadam, the bicycle library, and the Traditional Culture Center shows overlap on Friday to Sunday evenings, so it’s easy to do them all in one go.
| Event | Venue | This week’s dates · times | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hwaseong Haenggung night opening <Dalbit Hwadam, 花談> | Around Hwaseong Haenggung Palace | 10/16 (Fri) – 10/18 (Sun) 18:00 – 21:30 (last entry 21:00) | Adults ₩2,000, soldiers and teens ₩1,500, children ₩1,000 | Every Friday to Sunday and on public holidays. Until 11/1 |
| <Weekend Play at the Hanok> October straw-ball games | Lawn of Suwon Traditional Culture Center | Activities 10/17 & 10/18 12:00–17:00 / shows 10/16 & 10/17 19:00–20:00 | Free | Walk-in, hands-on |
| 2026 Moonlight Concert, October show | Lawn of Suwon Traditional Culture Center | 10/18 (Sun) 19:00, jazz by Lunils Lounge (루닐스라운지) | Free | Open to all, no booking. May be canceled or changed if it rains |

| Suwon Museum kids’ weekend class <Dorandoran Folk Painting Class> | Kids’ classroom, Suwon Museum 1F | 10/17 (Sat) 13:00 – 15:00 | ₩5,000 per session (pay by card at the front desk on the day) | Ages 9 – 11, 15 per session. First come first served on the integrated booking system. Couldn’t confirm remaining seats |

| Suwon Arboretum autumn night opening “Bambit Garden” | Ilwol Arboretum and Yeongheung Arboretum | 10/16 (Fri) & 10/17 (Sat), theme gardens and greenhouse 09:30 – 21:00 (last entry 20:30) | Couldn’t confirm | Plant displays with a fairy-tale twist and a night walk. Program and show schedules to be posted on the website later |
| National Agricultural Museum of Korea <GO GO! Today I’m Milk> | Culture Space “on”, Education Building, National Agricultural Museum of Korea | Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00 | Free | An immersive exhibition where kids become milk and follow the cold chain. Free to walk around |
With preschoolers, straw-ball games at the Traditional Culture Center in the daytime and Dalbit Hwadam around 6 in the evening is plenty.
Kids’ admission is ₩1,000, so it’s easy on the wallet. Hmm.. none of the notices I read this time had any parking info.
(Which makes me lean even more toward public transport for the Haenggung area)
Where’s worth going with kids in Yongin this week?
Is Gyeonggi Children’s Museum free on 10/17 and 18?
Yes. 10/17 (Sat) and 10/18 (Sun) are the museum’s free days.
But not all tickets are handed out on site. Only 20% are issued on site, and 80% are booked online in advance.
Free weekend days mean the on-site share can run out fast, so look at advance booking first. It’s closed on 10/12 (Mon).
| Program | Venue | Dates · times | Cost | Ages · how to apply |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| <Piece by Piece, Together! Pizza!> | 3F gallery 《We Are Friends of Planet Earth》 | Weekends 11:00–11:30, 15:00–15:30 | Free | Ages 5+ (up to 12 per session). Advance booking via GGC Members; cancellations taken on site |

| Traveling exhibition <Open Up~ Independence Box!> | Nook exhibition space, 1F | Until 10/25 | Free (as listed for the exhibition) | Infants, preschoolers, elementary. A traveling exhibition with the Mongyang Memorial Hall |
| Gyeonggi Provincial Museum dig class <Inventions of Prehistoric People> | Prehistoric & Ancient gallery and excavation area, Gyeonggi Provincial Museum | 10/17 (Sat) 10:30–12:00 | ₩5,000 (no charge for guardians) | Ages 8–10 (grades 1–3), 15 kids. First come first served via GGC Members. Couldn’t confirm remaining seats |
Gyeonggi Provincial Museum and Gyeonggi Children’s Museum share the same address, Sanggal-ro 6, so a dig class in the morning followed by the children’s museum in the afternoon fits together nicely.
What’s on at Yongin Children’s Imagination Forest this week?
On 10/17 (Sat), for Culture Day:

There’s a family mural, frame and color bracelet making, and a book talk with picture book author Boram.
The family mural is advance booking only, first come first served through a Naver form at 14:00 on 10/13 (Tue). Everything else also takes walk-ins on the day.
(Set an alarm for 2 p.m. on Tuesday)

What about shows in Yongin and the Korean Folk Village?
| Event | Venue | Dates · times | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Media art musical <The Blue Bird> | Keun Eoulmadang (performance building, Yongin Lifelong Learning Center) | 10/16 (Fri) 11:00 / 10/17 (Sat) 11:00, 15:00 / 10/18 (Sun) 11:00, 15:00 (80 min) | ₩20,000 (Yongin residents ₩10,000) | Ages 4+ (born 2022 or earlier). There’s a notice that parking is always full |
| Korean Folk Village Pungmul Hangarak | Folk Village house No. 37 stage | Fri, Sat, Sun and public holidays 16:00 (Mon–Thu 11:00 / 16:00) | Admission extra (full-day weekend: adults ₩39,000, children ₩32,000) | Nonverbal show of pungmul drumming, Korean dance, and folk performance. Whether it runs in the rain is decided on the day |
| Korean Folk Village “Gwisin Saba Ghost Play” | Korean Folk Village | Until 11/15. “Suspicious Villagers” and Chugwondang shrine Fri–Sun & holidays 12:00–21:30; activities daily 12:00–18:00 | Folk Village admission (full-day weekend: adults ₩39,000, children ₩32,000) | Ghost theme. The official info alone doesn’t tell you if your kid will find it scary |
The Blue Bird is half price for Yongin residents, so for locals it’s the easiest Yongin show on the wallet this week.
The Folk Village charges ₩32,000 for a child (weekend), so unless you plan to spend the whole day there, it feels like a bit of a waste.
Any kids’ shows or exhibitions in Seongnam this week?
| Event | Venue | Dates · times | Cost | Notes |

Seongnam doesn’t have many public kids’ events this week.
It’s basically the Job World circus on Saturday morning and the AR reading experience at Book Theme Park in the afternoon.
The reading experience only takes 6 kids, so check first if you can still sign up before 17:00 on Friday.

At Mindeulle Theater Village, watching Overcoat at 13:00 and then Paper Theater at 15:00 makes for a tidy plan. Both are ₩10,000.
The Pumasi Performing Arts Festival ends on 10/18, so this weekend is the last one.
The royal tomb musical at Yunggeolleung starts at 19:30, so with little kids you’ll get home pretty late.
