Suwon, Hwaseong, Yongin, Seongnam & Gwacheon with Kids This Weekend: 7 Places, as Closing Festivals and New Openings Overlap (10/19–25)

The fourth weekend of October in southern and eastern Gyeonggi is a pile-up: festivals wrapping up and brand-new events starting, all at once.

The Namhansanseong Autumn Festa and the Gyeonggi Children’s Museum 15th anniversary event both end this weekend.

Gwacheon National Science Museum’s Halloween week and the Moomin exhibition in Guri go the other way and open on 10/24 (Sat).

Out of all of it, I picked just 7 places you can actually do with kids on Saturday or Sunday.

1. Halloween Week at Gwacheon National Science Museum

10.24 (Sat) – 30 (Fri) · Free

‘A Suspicious Week at the Insect Hall: CREEPY WEEK’ starts this Saturday, with the Insect Ecology Hall dressed up to look spooky. Kids listen to a talk about spiders and get candy.

During the same dates, the Natural History Hall runs ‘Don’t Wake the Dinosaur’. Kids work through five missions without waking the dinosaur. Both are walk-in, no reservation.

There’s also a free stamp tour where you hunt for Hero Cat stamps hidden around the museum, running until 10.31 (Sat). The Science Exploration Hall is closed for renovation until 11.2.

This week, 10/19 (Mon) is a regular closing day.

Location: Insect Ecology Hall & Natural History Hall, Gwacheon National Science Museum (110 Sanghabeol-ro, Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do)

2. Picnic Day at Gyeonggi Children’s Museum

10.24 (Sat) & 25 (Sun) · 10,000 won per team

The museum’s 15th anniversary event, ‘Fifteen, Let’s Play Together!’, ends this weekend. This weekend’s program: you borrow a picnic basket from the museum, have a picnic nearby, and fill in a mission sheet along the way.

Only 7 teams per session, up to 5 people per team. Besides advance sign-up, they say they also take walk-in registration on the day.

Booking a visit to the museum exhibitions is separate. Return the basket to the information table on the 1st floor by 4:40 pm that day. If it rains, the program moves indoors or gets canceled.

Location: Around Gyeonggi Children’s Museum (6 Sanggal-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do)

4. Autumn Festival at the Railroad Museum, Uiwang

10. 24 (Sat) & 25 (Sun) 14:00 · Child admission 2,000 won

Real railway workers come in to talk about their jobs. Saturday is a rolling-stock mechanic, Sunday is a train dispatcher.

It’s held in the diorama room of the indoor exhibition hall. Number tickets are handed out on site, first come first served, 30 minutes before it opens.

On Sunday there’s also ‘Railway Safety Explorers’ in the outdoor exhibition area. Kids from age 7 to 4th grade learn, through play, what to do in a train fire and how to stay safe at level crossings and on platforms.

Safety Explorers runs twice, at 12 noon and 4 pm. 15 kids per session, first come first served, sign up at the diorama room desk.

Admission is 2,000 won for ages 4–18. Under 48 months is free.

The museum is closed every Monday, so it’s closed on 10/19 too.

This isn’t a Seongnam Cultural Foundation production; it’s a privately produced show renting the venue. The official page doesn’t show remaining seats, so you have to check on the booking screen.
